Below are a few examples of food and drinks that you should avoid in order to maintain or treat your diabetes:

In order to treat type 1 diabetes you must take control on your daily sugar intake, this means a big NO to sugary drinks! Tea and coffee are ok as long as you take sweeteners (sugar alternatives).

Here is a healthy diet plan example that ensures your body sugar intake to be kept at minimum:

Breakfast

  • Wholemeal cereals with skimmed milk
  • wholegrain toast
  • Yogurt with fruits
  • a glass of skimmed milk

Lunch

  • Pasta with salad
  • Vegetable soup
  • Low fat yoghurt

Dinner

  • Salmon with salad
  • Mix vegetables
  • Lentil soup
White rice should be avoided! Drink at least 2 litres of water and make sure that you do at minimum 60 minutes of daily cardiovascular workouts. This can be in form of walking, running or swimming. As long as you burn 500 calories you are good to go!

Maintaining a good BMI is essential in order to treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Studies show that diabetes can be treated and cured with a well-balanced healthy diet and exercises.
